Photo Permission Policy
We recently changed our policy about getting permissions to photograph people. It is now an "opt out" system and the public must let us know that they do not want to be photographed. Getting verbal consent for small groups is very easy and we are no longer taking pictures of the back of heads. When we take pictures we announce that fact and invite them to decline if they wish. Musical Storytime - Billings Public Library
Description: These are some lesson plans I created to integrate classical music and jazz into story times for kids. Each story time consists of a lot of dancing, singing, and having fun! Musical Performances at the Library
Belgrade Library regularly partners with the local symphony for our volunteer appreciation and we're in discussion about hosting "practice sessions" at the library that are open to the public. We also started hosting Intermountain Opera Bozeman for some opera outreach including explanation of the opera plot, some excerpts from songs to expect, potential to bring some guest artists in for a performance, and some Q&A with the opera performers and experts.

Music and Movement for preschoolers at Bitterroot Public Library
Taking ideas from other libraries and fee-based Music and Movement programs, our library now offers a Music and Movement class. It was introduced as a weekly event for four weeks with a sign up sheet for each session. Since it was successful, we are doing it monthly throughout the year. Elephant Craft
We made this craft today at story time and I'm so excited with how it turned out! Materials needed: - CDs - Party blowers (I think that's what they're called) - Googly eyes - Grey paper - Grey/silver tissue paper - Hot glue (for prep) - Glue sticks This had quite a bit of prep since I hot glued the party blowers to the inside of the CD hole so they would stay in there. I glued them with the blower part coming out of the shiny side so the kids could choose if they wanted a shiny elephant or not. I

Concert Series on the Lawn
Description: Classical violinist, Tim Fain performance brought just under 400 attendees for a lawn concert. Although an alternative site was used due to rain, it was a mesmerizing performance. 5:30 - 6:30 PM free and open Dark Horse Consort, a baroque ensemble played on the library lawn from 5:30 - 6:30. Rocky Mountain Laboratory Public Tours
Description: The library offered two tours (20 people each )to tour the renowned research facility in collaboration with the lab. The tours were so popular that we are doing 4 more with a waiting list of 15 people currently. Providing access opportunity to the public to this high security facility has been a win-win scenario for both the library and the lab. Walking Tour of Downtown Hamilton
Description: Russ Lawrence, local historian, talked about the quirks and oddities of downtown Hamilton in his 1.5 hour tour. It was full of really interesting tidbits about buildings and people you would not necessarily find in a history book. Indian-Style Cooking Demonstration and Tasting
Description: I do a lot of cooking demonstrations at our library because they are always very popular. Local chef, Barbara Costantino demonstrated how to prepare Aloo Palak, a Hindi style potato and spinach dish. A variety of spices were used and everyone had a substantial taste of the dish. The library smelled like cumin for many days. I use an electric pan for this kind of demonstration, donated to us by one of our volunteers. Homeschooling Resources
Introduction: At MLA 2019 in Helena, the Children's and Youth Services Interest Group met and discussed ideas and suggestions for activities next year. One topic of interest that emerged was more resources to provide to homeschooling communities in libraries. A short survey was sent to youth services librarians across the state to get feedback on what kinds of resources people were looking for, and the State Library reached out to homeschooling groups across the state to get their input as well.
