MSC Resource Sharing Groups

What Does it Mean to Be in an MSC Resource Sharing Group?

While all libraries in the Montana Shared Catalog (MSC) consortium share the Symphony integrated library system (ILS), as well as access to system support and training, the MSC's resource sharing group libraries have agreed to take down walls and share collections for the benefit of their patrons. A patron whose library participates in a sharing group can place holds on items owned by other libraries in their group. Using a combination of mail and courier service, the item is delivered to the patron’s home library.

There are three sharing groups within the MSC. The largest group, called the MSC Partners Resource Sharing Group, was formed in 2004 and includes over 35 member libraries and branches located throughout the state. The two other sharing groups are 4-Rivers, with 10 members, and Gallatin County Libraries (BridgerNet), with 5 members, who share patrons within their geographical regions.
