WorkFlows - Function Key Mapping

WorkFlows - Function Key Mapping

About

This article and tutorial video (below) cover how to assign function keys in WorkFlows

Introduction

  1. Some F-keys are reserved and you won't be able to assign them. These are F1 (Help), F6, F8 and F10.
  2. You cannot assign an F-key to more than one function at a time; however, you can use the ALT and SHIFT keys for more functionality.
    1. For example, if you assign the Pay Bills function to ALT+F8, holding the ALT key down then pressing F8 will open the Pay Bills wizard.
  3. Each wizard can be assigned to only one F-key at a time.
    1. For example, if CheckOut is already assigned to F9, you'll have to clear it from F9 before assigning it to a different key.
  4. F-key settings are workstation-specific.
  5. You can assign F-keys in two ways: through Function Key Mapping or Local Toolbar Management.

Function Key Mapping

1. Click Preference from the Menu Bar, then select Desktop > Current toolbar > Function Key Mapping...

2. View current assignments by:
  1. Unchecking the Shift and Alt boxes at the top of the pop-up displays functions assigned to the F-keys alone.
  2. Checking the Shift box displays functions assigned to the SHIFT+F# combination.
  3. Checking the Alt box displays functions assigned to the ALT+F# combination.
  4. Checking both boxes displays functions assigned to the ALT+SHIFT+F# combination.

3. Use the drop-downs to assign / unassign functions:
  1. To assign a function, select it from the drop-down. If you don't see the function you want, proceed to step 4.
  2. To unassign (clear) a function, select the blank space from the drop-down.
4. If a function has already been assigned, it won't appear in the drop-down of the key / key combination that you want to assign it to. Find which key / key combination the function is currently assigned to, then select the blank space from the drop-down to unassign it.

5. Once the function has been unassigned, it will appear in the drop-down of the key / key combination that you prefer and you can select it.

6. Click OK.
7. When you close WorkFlows, select Yes if prompted to save changes.

Local Toolbar Management

1. Click Preference from the Menu Bar, then select Desktop > Current toolbar > Local Toolbar Management.
